Wild Ones tips and tricks

Twenty seconds, one shot, a crowd of pets waiting to blow you up. These are the habits that separated good Wild Ones players from great ones.

How a match worked

Each turn gave you about 20 seconds. You moved with the arrow keys, aimed with the mouse and fired. Points came from damage, knockouts and terrain you destroyed, so even a near miss that carved up the ground counted. Depending on the mode, the winner was the last pet standing or the player with the most points.

Aiming and terrain

  • Take the high ground. Shooting down is easier than shooting up, and enemies below you have fewer safe angles.
  • Dig your rival out. Every blast reshapes the map. Remove the ground under a pet and let the fall do the damage.
  • Mind the water. After a Platypus flood, only swimmers like the Duck, Penguin and Platypus could wade through safely, so pets that could not swim had to get to high ground fast.
  • Use your whole turn. Twenty seconds goes fast: move first, then line up the shot.

Picking the right weapon

  • Lobbed weapons like grenades go over walls and into holes.
  • Rays like the Laser Cannon fire in a straight line, perfect when you have a clear view.
  • Critters like the Beehive hunt nearby pets, great against someone hiding in a crater.
  • Melee weapons like the Baseball Bat and Fire Axe only work up close but can knock pets off ledges.
  • Utility beats damage sometimes: the Teleporter and Grappling Hook get you out of trouble.

Playing your pet

Every pet's special ability changed how you played. Fly over walls with the Bat, climb anything with the Monkey, tunnel with the Armadillo or flood the map with the Platypus. Abilities with limited uses per match were best saved for the turn that mattered. Our pet tier list covers which pets were strongest.

Coins, treats and gifts

  • New players started with 10 treats, and every achievement star earned one more.
  • Visiting neighbours paid bonus coins, and daily mystery gifts added free rewards.
  • Betting on matches unlocked at level 4.
  • Some pets needed chow, which limited how often you could play them, so it paid to have a backup pet.

What about cheats?

Wild Ones never had cheat codes. Some players used hacking tools, which broke the rules and got accounts banned, and the fan wiki kept a record of them. The real advantage was always knowledge: the maps, the weapons and your pet.
